Finally I'm certified

Throughout this few years right after my graduation in Bachelor of Science (Environment), I have been jumping from one job to another. I'm looking for a job that suit my passion but I didn't knew what I'm passionately into.

  • My first job was with VADS Berhad at Kuala Lumpur. Just few months after my convocation, I grab the opportunity to socialize by working with a Customer Service company. I met many kind of peoples and make few friends there. Working with people helps me to improve my communication skill. I thought I had autism and antisocial but when you learnt how to communicate and be able to interpret other though you'll survive in the community.

  • I got interviewed and offer as Chemist at north of Malaysia, my hometown Kedah. I moved to Kedah, stay at my house Alor Setar. It was very relaxing life although it can be very tiring. I have to drive all the way from Alor Setar to Jitra almost everyday. I only get one day off (weekend) on Friday. At first I was given a task to perform a water testing at laboratory. After a few months in lab, my soul begun to erupt. I was retaliate and rebel for not having a good time while working. It was very unmotivated life. I got transferred to R&D department to work with mushroom cultivation. It was fun working with R&D but I don't see any bright future staying there any longer. I took my chance to move on and resigned.

  • Its been 2-3 months being job hunter and been going for interview here and there. Nothing good news come out from each interviews. While surfing through Facebook, I contacted my high school college (Wan Mohammed Adlan) just to say hi. While chatting, I ask if he got any job vacancy at his workplace. I contacted his supervisor and he said to come in for interview on the next day. I travelled from Kedah to Selangor. After having so many hopeless interviews, I didn't put any hope to this interview but my luck just change. I got interview and work right away as Research Assistant (RA) at UKM Pakarunding. I manage to complete one Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of LNG Regasification Plant at Sg Udang, Melaka as RA. I got promoted to be Assistant Consultant (AC) after 6 months working as RA. As an AC, I deal with much more projects and EIAs with various group of corporate. It last about 1 year.

  • A friend of mine decide to expand his business. He establish Upskor, a company that cater online quiz and automated marking for education purposes. He wants me to join his business team. I'd been helping him since I join UKM Pakarunding. I dare myself to take up the challenge to venture into business area. As I failed to perform, I search for another job vacant which I do best in my area of expertise. I rather stay on the back bencher as support to my friend business and he's now grows success in what he did.

  • I'm now working with SOx NOx Asia as Assistant Consultant since July 2012. Thanks to my friend (Anies Fathiah) recommendation I get this job. I start off as a part time worker because I still work for Upskor and now I'm a permanent staff. This is my career path. I really enjoy in what I do in this field and I'm a certified Assistant Consultant.

It has been a long up and down journey so far.. yet it still far to be call a good achievements. I still have a long way to become a certified environmental consultant.

Being human is that we do make mistake in making decision but we learn the process of making it. -AIS 2013-

Electric: Moving at the speed of light

In early age, electric is not widely use in a daily life. After a few discovery of electricity, the world shift to a new age where the technology blooms. Nowadays, human is inseparable with electricity. Almost all technology works with the power of electricity.

Electricity have long exist in the ancient age. The recorded electric discovery was mention in Ancient Egyptian and Greek text with the discovery of electric eel. In fact, the word electricity comes from the Greek electron, which means amber.

At first the electric study was initiated by William Gilbert of England on 16 century with exploration of magnetism and electricity. Later on the early 17th century, many researcher/inventor such as Otto von Guericke of Germany, Charles Francois Du Fay of France, and Stephen Gray of England expend the knowledge until the discovery of Layden Jar / Kleistian jar by Pieter van Musschenbroek of Dutch and Ewald Christian Von Kleist of German.

Some other famous electricity discovery;
  1. Benjamin Franklin - lightning rod as first electric application
  2. Alexander Graham Bell - idea that electric wires might be able carry the human voice
  3. Michael Faraday and Joseph Henry - discover the electric generator but long pause until resume recently due to rise of demands
  4. Thomas Davenport - discover the electric car but the research was not practical during that period due to high cost consumption of batteries
  5. Charles F Brush - invented the arc light as a practical illuminating device
  6. Thomas Alva Edison - discover the light bulb, telegraph, phonograph, incandescent lamp and dynamo

Electricity: How does it works?

Electricity = movement of electrons.
Current = flow of electron
Voltage = force pushing the electron flow

Supply and demand

With great dependable to energy in our daily life, the energy demand rise parallel with population growth. You can check the energy consumption at World Energy Consumption. As the consumption arise so does the awareness of green energy. Most of developed countries consume a lot of energy but they started reducing the energy consumption on 2009 where its recorded slight reduce in energy consumption in European countries.
"Electricity is a sign of the next stage of modernization"

Electric generation: What is power plant?

Since the discovery made by Michael Faraday and Joseph Henry (electric current can be produced in a wire simply by moving a magnet in or out of a coiled part of the wire), mass research was done to expend this branch to meet with electricity demand. Today, we have many types of power plants and cluster under two types; non-renewable and renewable energy.

Nonrenewable energy such as radioactive fuel such as nuclear power plant and fossil fuel include coal, petroleum (crude oil) and natural gas power plant.

Renewable energy such as the movement of water (hydropower, tidal power and wave power), wind and radiant energy from geothermal heat (used for geothermal power) and solar energy (used for solar power) are practically infinite and cannot be depleted.

Transmission line: How does the electricity being distributed?
Power plant evolution: Where does it headed?

Other forms of electricity;

Human nerves system send out electric pulse to brain in order to feed information so we can reflect or act base on situation.
Thunder storm is a form of natural lightning occurrence when negative charge cloud collide with positive charge cloud.
Static shock occur when two charged substance touch/contact each other. Sometimes we'll experienced static shock with things that we touch.
Fish is common animal that can generate electric such as electric eel.

Environmental Science

What is Environmental Science?

People might be familiar with word environment but what is exactly is environment? The environment comprise living and nonliving, organic and mechanic, particle and matter, simply put everything around us.

What is the science behind our environment? Our environment very closely related to science. Science is about everything and everything is environment. Environmental Science covers almost all aspect in general.

When the environment become a topic of discussion? Since the environmental catastrophic arise, the topic begun largely discuss as a state issue and being consider as the act of nature. After the WWII, the world unite and share their thought and worries on environmental catastrophic  Later on environmental awareness alarm globally. EU are among countries that develop rapidly in the environmental awareness and professional skills.

Why we care of our environment so much?
  1. The environment is been given to us to take care of.
  2. We humans are the only capable living that can lead the revolution.
  3. Only us human are polluting our environment.

What I did in Environmental area as my profession is just a niche. One cant covers the environment as whole but with general understanding we can make a different. The environmentalist need to globally cooperate to cover the earth environment. To conclude, its not what I do can make any change, its what we do can make the different.

The Sanitary Landfill

Site dumping at Kedah

This is a landfill. Its dumping site for domestic waste meaning that its trash from your house. Landfill lifespan (years) calculated by its capacity. For example, 100 hectares site dumping on landfill may have a total estimated lifespan for 5-8 years. The waste generated is increasing over years and the landfill lifespan may be under estimated. People complains on the landfill operation that produce smell and unhygienic environment but did you know that all that comes from your site? Mitigation measures can be done start from source (house) by sorting out your kitchen waste.

Way of sorting domestic waste:
  1. Divide wet and dry waste (wet waste will cause smelly odor)
  2. Fertilize the land by using food waste (eg; vegetables leftover, apple / potato skin, biodegradable waste)
  3. Do recycling program
  4. Try not to use polystyrene container (polystyrene takes extra few years to degrade and also the cause of cancer risk increase). If there is, properly dispose it.

The Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP)

Another example is Waste Water Treatment Plant. Its function is to treat the sewerage (domestic wastewater) before releasing to river (comply with Malaysia Standard) as natural water cycle. WWTP also facing the same issue with complains due to its smelly and unhygienic operation. The cost to operate increase due to terrestrial matter inside the sewerage. The most problematic substance is toilet tissues. Tissue get soak and mix nicely with water thus increase the TSP (Total Solid Particle). Thus the technology to filter out the tissues are very costly (membrane filter). Please reduce any flushing of toilet tissue as it will lead to cost consumption during water treatment.

Uganda's Dreams

As I was seeing a friend from Uganda last week, he did mention that Uganda just made a discovery on in-land oil reserved within their national park. After a while, I did some research on press release about the oil discovery in Uganda. I was surprise that the big discovery has lead to a bigger issues. Oil discovery has made every Ugandans dream of prosperity future. Parliament are still heavily debate on how should the oil revenues be deployed.

Oil Discovery

Oil and gas reserves discovered in the western part of the country boosted their confidence after fall in inflation. Uganda plans to make their way out of the global economic turn-down on 2008 when they can only depends on the coffee export. Uganda predict that they will had their first oil commercial production around 2017 or 2020. This is a sign of their dream prosperity, a turntable for their economic growth or it may also a sign of trouble.

Uganda's facts

  • Not a single public works project that has ever been finished on time or within budget.
  • Corruption around public works is a billion dollar industry and cornered by politicians and public servants.
  • Uganda was rating most corrupt country in eastern Africa.
  • First oil discovery was on 2006 and expected to start production at 2009. The timeline just shift few more years. Kenya which is equally corrupt,  will start its own oil program and expected that Kenya will start oil production ahead of Uganda.

A price to pay

This is a story of a person who makes her living from farming and harvesting her land. Her daily routine is about to change when some oil was found found beneath her land. The discovery can change her life for a better or worse, it is yet to be known.
The Ministry of Energy plans to build a oil refinery erecting up to twenty-nine (29) kilometers square for the upcoming oil production. The development will also include an airstrip, shopping malls and apartments. Millions dollar project is predicted to evict nearly eight-thousand (8000) people from their homes and farms for the project development. From 8000 people, some will be relocated while others will be compensated accordingly. With Uganda current situation, will the authorities adequately compensate the people for what they had lose? Other had raise issue that they may be forced to relocate into a land that may be not suitable for their farm growth.

You can read their dilemma at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-20312220

Conclusion

This entry is just by compiling journalist and writer reviews from the oil discovery issues in Uganda. I didn't have chance to do ground experience on Ugandan life in Kampala. They may have living is adequate life or they may have suffering in taxes and economic inflation. For what best, I wish Ugandan for peaceful settlement that provide alternative to wars and conflicts. May Allah guides to those He pleased.

Environmental Catastrophic

The theory of Green House Gasses for debate (self-interpretation).

With the rising alarm of the global warming, climate change and other environmental threats, people begun to seek solution to the environmental puzzles. The environmentalist begin to grow larger with diverse aspect and expertise. They create questions of where, which, when and how the environmental catastrophic event occur. They seek answers for each event. If you ever watch An Inconvenient Truth, you'll learn that the earth is on the brink of degradation for human comfort. If you read a book titled Slaying the Sky Dragon, you'll learn that none of the environmental theory is relevant to what knowledge we have currently. By referring to this two theories and studies, I'll briefly describe their points of debate.

An Inconvenient Truth

The film documentary was about the long campaign of the former Vice President of United States, Al Gore. His campaign is to educate people about global warming. By his slide presentation, the audience discover the shocking facts and pictures of global warming.

"The An Inconvenient Truth is not a story of despair but rather a rallying cry to protect the one earth we all share" plot summarized by Plantation Productions in IMDb.

Global warming is the main focus in this film as the facts that the sea water is arise from the melting of north and south pole glaciers, the snow is not as thick as 10 years ago, the Himalayan mountains region slowly become less ice cap, flooding occurrence and more. Gore said the film's thesis is that global warming is real, potentially catastrophic, and human-caused. Gore present that the temperature recorded since 1880 and the temperature is increasing steadily and the hottest temperature recorded for the past 14 years. The temperature increase sync with the increase of CO2. This proven the theory that CO2 is contributing the global temperature increase. With more study, he discover that the CO2 largely produce during and after the World War II with the increase of factory being build. Old factory produce mainly CO2 and other greenhouse gasses from the coal, oil and gas combustion. This then being releasing to our atmosphere without proper mitigation measures. Video link below show the thriller of the documentary film.

Slaying the Sky Dragon

The book was written by Charles R. Anderson, Ph.D. (United States), Timothy Ball PhD (Canada), Martin Hertzberg PhD (United States), Claes Johnson PhD (Sweden), Joseph A. Olson (United States), Hans Schreuder (Holland) and John O’Sullivan (United Kingdom & United States). This book brings together band of slayers to expose the scientific hoax about the earth global warming.

"Seven independent authors, powerfully expressing their unpaid views, unhindered by ‘big oil’ backers and with no affiliation to any political party have joined forces out of disgust for the way politicians have lied to us for years" quoted from slayingtheskydragon.com.

Through this book, the Greenhouse Gas Effect (GHE) theory were debated and condemned for their fraud claims. The CO2 rising from human activities does not effect the global climate change. The claims was made to increase the country tax and to oppress the underdeveloped country. The video link below will show how to slay the sky dragon (GHE).

Our current knowledge where do we stand?

Global warming, why is it human-caused? How much do we understand our gasses exchange in our atmosphere? Are we running from the truth and not willing to pay for our cause?
From here, I let you decipher yourself.

Manmade Highway

The purpose of having road and highway.

In the beginning...

To begin with, let us look deep into our history. A person is travelling from point A to point B. When ariving to point B, another person ask where did him come from. At the same time a group of people also come from point A. They start to map out their route. The quickest route is preferable. Many people will use that route from then forth. Soon, along the way people may build a camp to rest and after so long many will reside along the route. They begin to sell and trade things. Stranger become regular traders.
After centuries, transportation evolve. From horses/donkeys to cart with wheels to steam engine to motor engine until more sophisticated engine. Transport evolution push the route to improve from dirt route to asphalt pavement. Roads were made to serve the travelers and smoother their journey but what does the highway purposes?

Traffic congestion...

The traffic congestion occur when traffic volume overflow the road capacity. Too many traffic lights, road blocks, road constructions/maintenance, interchanges, lane jumping and abrupt steering maneuver are also contribute reducing the traffic smoothness. Highway were invented to coop with high traffic flow on normal roads. To reduce the traffic flow on serving roads by moving the traffic on the specific design highways to move from town to town with interchanges. There are several type of highway; federal/state highways which serve the traffic movement within the city and expressway which connect between several cities or even countries. In Malaysia, we had several expressways serving our people such as North-South Expressway,   West Coast Expressway, Second Link Expressway and many more.
